international standards

I have used the previous editions very frequently especially during my time working abroad. This is the only comprehensive source of metric and International standards for design data that I am aware of and is organized in very readable way. In fact, when I introduced the book to my co-workers abroad, everyone bought a copy. It is a great book for rules-of-thumb reference for designing buildings, spaces and layouts for national and especially International standards.

Useful book for preliminary design phases

It was in our varsity library where I opened "Neufert" for the first time back in late 70s (they had a two-volume Russian version). Amazingly, then as I studied Architecture I was rather impressed by a broad selection of examples of Western Architecture than by reference data themselves. Now I am more interested in the latter... And the newly edition I have surely provides that! You may blame it for slightly outdated materials or general incompleteness. But, remember, those features are generic for sources like this. Instead the book is useful specifically at preliminary design phases when an architect needs the most general guidelines. You can quickly navigate in a fat volume and can get desired information easily and in full. The only drawback, I think, is that the book is rather based on a continental (mostly German) and British content which can be somewhat inconvenient for, say, an American reader.

About the Author
William Ames (1576-1633) was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, where William Perkins was his tutor. He attended the Synod of Dort as an English observer and there began to develop his reputation as a brilliant theologian. From 1622, he was professor of theology at the University of Franeker in Holland, where he attracted students from all over Protestant Europe.

On Every Pilgrim's Bookshelf

William Ames' "Marrow" is one of the two or three books sure to have been found on every pilgrims bookshelf beside the Geneva Bible, a Bay Psalm book and perhaps a few others (Maybe Wigglesworth's "Day of Doom")was Ames works, and to be sure it's special place was deserved. Ames wrote the Marrow in order to take all the confusing arguments of systematic theology and boil them down to the essence, so his readers would have the BARE BONES of the point at issue. This he did magnificently! This edition has a full biography of Ames and a good writeup that gives the feel for the times and debates surround the work. A masterpiece!

marrow snubbed by seminary boys

I'll get 1 star ratings for this review, as usual, but this --- ready? --- is a great book! Don't listen to the seminary boys who think if a book is more than 18 months old it's 'outdated', or 'surpassed' by 'better theology'. This is systematic theology very condensed, uniquely organised, and scholastically poetic. It's the type of work that can be read after you've learned the basics and are looking for an influence to consolidate it all for you. It's a very historical book too. It's a book where when you finish you say, "Wow, I just read Ames' Marrow of Theology. I'm like a New England Puritan or something." (Quick, give me a one-star rating for that sentence!) This book, Calvin's Institutes, Witsius' Economy of the Covenants, John Owen's Biblical Theology, the Westminster Standards, Meredith G. Kline's Works (Kingdom Prologue, Images of the Spirit, Glory In Our Midst, etc.), Reymond's New Systematic Theology of the Christian Faith, Berkhof's Systematic Theology, these books will teach you Covenant Theology, the deep fountains and celestial pillars of the Plan of God from eternity and in time. The Spirit will connect you, and your effort to act from God's Will rather than vanity, worldly pride, and self-will will develop you and get you back to the possessing the full image of God. Provoke limits, extend limits; gratitude over resentment. Now it is high time to awake out of sleep!

The greatest Christian theology book ever written

This is the greatest Christian theology book ever written. I would put John Calvin's "Institutes of the Christian Religion" second place to this book. This is a must read for Presbyterian, Reformed Baptist, Reformed, Dutch Reformed or any "Calvinistic reformed" Christian you can think of. As a matter of fact, any Christian under any denomination or non-denomination should read this book cover to cover. You can skip every other book on the shelf and just go right to this book. Read it twice, three times or more. The book breaks down theology Systematically using deductive reason. It is to the point, thorough, logical, Biblical and outright genius. No modern Christian today can match it. The only problem I have with this particular version is that the quality of paper is not as good as other copies out there and the cover is very "black and white." My other copy (Yes I have two now) has a more manila colored paper that is thicker and the cover has a more quality print on it; however, I could never in my right mind give this book anything less than 5 stars regardless. It could be printed on toilet paper and I would keep, read, and cherish it.

Excellent Resource for Liquid Soapmaking!

This book is excellent if you want to learn how to make liquid soap. I was already doing cold process bar soaps, but I love a good liquid soap and wanted to learn the ropes to do it myself. She offers up detailed instructions, both paste and no-paste, and many good recipes to get you started. So far I have made a shampoo and a hand soap - both of which my family adores.

I have been making liquid soap for many years and still picked up some tips from Jackie in this book. This book is good for the beginner to the experienced liquid soapmaker. She explains ingredients well, the different processes you can use to make liquid soaps, and gives clear instructions on each process. The book contains formulations throughout and also has a section on how to formulate your own soaps. The book also contains a section on scenting and coloring your liquid soaps as well as ways to solve problems that may come up.

About the Author
Mike Hulme is Professor of Climate Change in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia (UEA), and Founding Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal papers and over 30 books or book chapters on climate change topics. He has prepared climate scenarios and reports for the UK Government, the European Commission, UNEP, UNDP, WWF-International and the IPCC. He is leading the EU Integrated Project ADAM (Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies) during the period 2006-2009, which comprises a 26-member European research consortium contributing research to the development of EU climate policy. He co-edits the journal Global Environmental Change and is Editor-in-Chief of the Interdisciplinary Review on Climate Change.

Climate is so multi-dimensional

This book analyses very thoroughly the multi-dimensional nature of climate issues. Because international agreement is required, the extent to which it is dependent on political and economic issues is well summarised by Hulme. It is a key aspect in this often vitriolic field, that Hulme writes as an insider to the system, and one who is concerned about anthropogenic global warming.
It is an excellent analysis of the whole field.

Getting into the Mind of Climate Change Denial

Beautifully written. Hulme gets to the heart of the controversy in an effort to explain why a certain percentage of people are unwilling to accept climate change as a reality. Also using this book for my thesis. Hulme is a gentle philosopher while making his points clear.

Great gift for a cinephile

I got this as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend who has been on a bit of a Wim Wenders kick and he loved it. The pictures are really beautiful and Wenders definitely has an interesting point of view. I would say the only thing that I was disappointed in (he hasn't found any fault with it) is that I thought it would be more of a diary that focused on pictures and stories from so many of his road movies (like Paris, Texas), but instead it seems to be just about everything. Not that that's bad, I guess my expectations were a little different is all.

In "Once" the beautifull and incredibly original Wenders's pictures are even more emotional thanks to the short stories describing the situation around the pictures sometimes in a very poetic way. The book is beautiful, maybe it would be more valuable with wider pages. Anyway, it's great !

Good overview book

This book gave me a good overview of the entire history of the Salvation Army without bogging down with details; there are details aplenty but not to many. It was pleasant to read and has suggestions for further reading if you so desire. I came away with a better understanding of the Salvation Army, its history and mission.
