Looking forward to the next one!

This story picks up where the last one left off. Aden is in labor and the alphas are all trying to get through it in their own ways. Unfortunately, Blaze is having a bit of a difficult time still, especially once the baby arrives. Seems this is something out of his control that he is frantic about his ability to protect, etc. So, there is quite a bit of tension among the foursome even during this joyous time.

Even more unfortunate is how distracted Blaze with everything going on. And with the mad scientist still on the loose, things go bad rather quickly. Madden is now obsessed with male pregnancy and sees dollar signs if he can recreate the ability in humans. He, of course, must get the secret from Blaze, whom he believes is the key element to making it happen. He uses horrific methods in attempting to gain such information, and it is mostly Blaze who suffers at his hands this time around.

At the same time, there is also an outside group claiming responsibility for attacks that is putting the plan of integrating the wolves and humans at great risk. So, there are quite a few twists in this story as well.

But, the main focus is, of course, on the mates, Orion’s Circle. I won’t give away the biggest twist of all here, but suffice to say, it’s a heartbreaker I did not see coming. I was pretty upset about it, but I really like how Ms. Sue played everything out in the end.

This is a really enjoyable shifter series that is refreshingly different and interesting. There are a number of dynamics that are not the same old, same old which really makes this story unique. I love these characters and am really looking forward to seeing what more is in store for them as they work to accomplish the goals they were put together to reach.

Complex characterizations and a Great plot

Seven months have passed since we last checked in on Aden, Blaze, Connor and Darric. The Orion’s Circle is expecting their first child. The second book of the Sirius Wolves series opens up with the Aden in the process of delivering their bundle of joy. When the child comes, Blaze is surprised that they have a daughter instead of the son that he thought they would have.

Shortly after Beth is born, a new terrorist group is trying to destroy the joint wolf human military training that Blaze and Senator Mason have been trying to set up. Their first attempt, kill the Joint Chiefs in Washington DC, fails. Their second attempt takes place in Denver. This time the group succeeds. The group Winter Circle claims responsibility. Blaze knows that the terrorist group is named in such a way to implicate the werewolves. He hopes that it is just a coincidence that a human group would choose that name.

Meanwhile, Doctor Madden is back in town. He has gotten information that the Orion’s Circle has had a child and wants to try to duplicate the results in humans. He first kidnaps Blaze thinking he is the reason for the child. When Blaze is unwilling to divulge any information, Madden then sets about kidnapping Aden to give Blaze incentive to talk. When Connor and Darric arrive to rescue their mates, all hell breaks out.

I enjoyed this story. Blaze is complex character. He is the Supreme Alpha but cannot seem to do anything right when it comes to Aden. What Blaze sees as protecting his mates, Aden sees it as overbearing sometimes. Blaze’s idea about hiring a couple of nannies is a prime example. Darric and Connor are there to try to explain to their mates what the others motivations are. With the plot twists that occur in this book, it will be interesting to see how this relationship moves forward in following books.

The cover design by 3 Rusted Spoons shows the Omega Aden shirtless in jeans standing in front of a starry sky. It is a decent cover for the story.

I write this review with a very bittersweet heart. If you've never read anything by Victoria Sue, then you simply must do so. She is talented at weaving a layered world that has realistic interactions and emotions that will make you feel as if you are in the room with the characters. Her characters are complex, emotional, and frustratingly endearing. I've enjoyed the Orion's Circle series immensely. The world that Ms. Sue writes about is fascinating and will draw you in. You will find yourself at the end of the story before you realize you've read it all in one sitting, and often blown away by the twists and turns!

Having said that, I will warn you that this series is not for the faint of heart. If you are a fan of happily ever afters, then proceed with an open mind about what that means. It's difficult for me to write this review, because I find myself profoundly affected by the end of the second book, in a way that I never anticipated. And while the story is masterfully written, I'm not certain I will continue with this particular series. Having said that, I'm grateful Ms. Sue has other series she has written that I fully intend to read! Give it a try - you will not be disappointed, no matter where the story leaves you.

Fantastic!

I bought this because my first grader asked to learn how to play piano, and I hoped this could get us started. There wasn't much out there by way of musical theory workbooks for kids, and I didn't know what to expect, but wow, does this one set the bar high! This book is fantastic. Its colorful, easy to follow, and my daughter is always eager to get to work on it. I'm even going to show it to her music teacher at school.

So far this book has been very easy to use and follow. Both my children 8 & 5 have really enjoyed the characters. The instructions are broken down in easy to follow segments. I will be ordering the next book in this series once we finish this one.

A hard-to-please child loves this one!

My son is NOT thrilled about piano lessons, but he really enjoys this book. We go through it together daily and he's learned alot. Frankly, I can't believe that he's willing to do anything associated with the piano daily, but this book did the trick!

About the Author

Bettina K�mmerling-Meibauer is Professor in the German Department at the University of T�bingen. In 2010 she held the position of guest professor in memory of Astrid Lindgren at Linnaeus-University of Kalmar/V�xj�, Sweden. She was also one of the advisory editors for The Oxford Encyclopedia of Children’s Literature.

Astrid Surmatz is tenured Assistant Professor in Swedish and Scandinavian Literature at the University of Amsterdam. In 2008 she was guest professor in memory of Astrid Lindgen at Linnaeus-University of KalmarV�xj�/, Sweden, where she continues as a visiting professor. She wrote her dissertation on Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking in various translations and is works currently�on Linnaeus.

Leading scholars draw from the Indian, Chinese, and Japanese traditions of thought to provide a normative ethical framework that can address the environmental challenges being faced in the twenty-first century. About the Author

J. Baird Callicott is University Distinguished Research Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Texas and author and editor of many books, including "Beyond the Land Ethic: More Essays in Environmental Philosophy," also published by SUNY Press.

James McRae is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Westminster College in Missouri. He is the coeditor (with Robert Arp and Adam Barkman) of "The Philosophy of Ang Lee."

not exactly new scholarship

Somewhere they ought to tell you that the book consists almost entirely of previously published articles (fifteen out of eighteen chapters, by my count). I guess the book must be intended for the classroom, because otherwise I don't see the point.

Oh, and if you're looking for some explanation of what the editors mean by "Asian traditions," you won't get it. In practice, they mean India, China, and Japan, but they don't come out and state this explicitly.

For forty-five years Hawayo Takata carried in her hands—literally—the energy of one of the world’s great healing arts which she called Reiki. She shared this knowledge with hundreds of students and treated thousands of sufferers during her long career as teacher and practitioner of Reiki Healing.

Her path and mine converged in the early Fall of 1973 when she traveled from her island home in Hawaii to teach a class on another island, this one off the Northwest coast of the State of Washington. I was one of thirty students in that class, and when this small Oriental woman stood before the class and said firmly, “Reiki means Universal Life Energy and we were are all composed of this energy. Everyone can use this energy for healing—and I can teach you how!” I knew she had the answers for which I had been searching.

This had been a long and diligent quest of more than seventeen years, one motivated by my need to understand more fully what had occurred in my life with a profound spiritual experience, a transformational event which even now I can describe inadequately only as “mystical.”

My conventional Christian rearing had not prepared me to comprehend nor cope with the energy which was spontaneously released as a result of this experience, and I found little comfort to help within the structure of my church. Instead, books began to gravitate to me and in the writings of the mystics, ancient and contemporary, I found validation for what had happened. The teachings of Jesus took on new depth and meaning in my life, and the way was opened for me to seek more answers in the study of the world’s great religions, in theology, philosophy, psychology, parapsychology, and in science, especially the “new physics.”

I read the popular literature on healing and healers and attended workshops and lectures on this subject. I sat in meetings with some of the world’s renowned spiritual healers, and I learned much about healing; yet no one seemed able to give me direction or assistance in utilizing my own abilities until Mrs. Takata stated clearly that September evening: “. . .I can teach you how!”—and she did. With my Reiki Healing training, the search was completed and this became the pivotal moment when my life began to change beyond imagining.

In her visits to the Pacific Northwest I came to know Hawayo Takata both as teacher and as friend, and when in 1980 she asked me to write her life story with Reiki, I was honored to do so. Before the manuscript was completed she made her transition, and the project was put aside temporarily, although I knew at the appropriate time my promise to her would be fulfilled.

In addition to those Masters initiated by Mrs. Takata in her lifetime, many more have since been trained to carry on this work. I am privileged to be among them. To the Masters and to the thousands of students who now carry Reiki Healing to the world, I offer this gift from Reiki Master Hawayo Takata.

A MUST for those interested in Reiki

There are many books on Reiki and some tell of uncovered secrets and some tell of More Power. Takata's "Story of Reiki" is sincere and from the Heart which is where Reiki SHOULD BE. You can feel the warmth through the words and gather a sense of Knowing that this is "The Way". As a Reiki Master I use this book in my Reiki class work and in lectures. Why don't YOU read this story and you decide. Very quick reading. It also tells in the last section of Takata's clinic and some of the Miracles that took place. If you practice Reiki you will be able to related to this book. If you don't practice Reiki and are interested in Healing work, you will probably began your search for a Reiki Master / Teacher. ENJOY!!!

A great introduction to Reiki!

I am a practicing Reiki Master in the Sacramento area, and have read many books on Reiki, becoming more confused along the way.
Reading this book and Living Reiki, coupled with my own direct experience of Reiki, brought home to me again how simple yet powerful Reiki is, and highlighted the fact that some physical problems take a bit longer to heal and require quite a few Reiki sessions.
This eloquent book is void of new-age thinking, chakra balancing, and the use of Reiki symbols: It brings home the fact that all that is needed is to be attuned to Reiki and then place one's hands on the body in order to start the healing process, in oneself or another, and that chronic conditions will take longer to right themselves.
Four months ago I started daily Reiki sessions, several a day lasting one-half hour, on a friend of mine diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and given only weeks to live. The cancer is almost totally gone and the terminal diagnois has been lifted. Chemotherapy side-effects were kept at minimum, and once I started Reiki, my friend never again experienced pain.
For my new students and those unaccquainted with Reiki, this little book is a great and inspiring introduction to what Reiki is and the incredible things that Reiki can do.

The book contains the story of how Reiki was discovered and the history of how it got to the United States. Simple, easy reading with a powerful message. Recommend to anyone into natural healing or just curious.
