Excellent Source for Cancer Patients

I have been using the Keith Block Life Over Cancer book as a bible to help with complementary treatment for my dad who has been diagnosed with cancer. On a very common and uneducated level about this disease, I have done everything I can to learn about cancer and through all that I have read, I have learned that nutrition and diet is a major factor attributing to the spread of this disease. There are many cookbooks out there that claim they have cancer fighting recipes and they may very well contain recipes that will help prevent cancer, so I don't disregard them. But, this is the very first book that I have found that every recipe contained in it will help seriously combat the disease while you are dealing with it. IT IS TRULY A BOOK FOR CANCER PATIENTS, not just a book for those who are looking to prevent cancer. This book is full of information and contains recipes that truly make your body a hostile environment for cancer cells to survive. It is such a relief to finally find a book such as The Cancer Fighting Kitchen to help with authentic recipes that arm the patient or careperson with more knowledge and information to help combat this disease.

Great find! A must have for any cancer patient or family of a cancer patient.

I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in March of 2016 (this year). My first treatment was chemotherapy. Being thrown into such an intense course of treatment that brought severe side effects caused me to look into books to help me make good food choices through the 5.5 month treatment. I stumbled upon this book and am so grateful for finding it!
I bought it used and even appreciated the previous owner's handwritten notes within it.
I like that the author has personally worked with oncology patients as well as having had cancer affect her own household. I also like that she takes a whole food approach. In my oncologist's waiting room, there were a number of magazine resources for eating "healthy" through cancer, but I felt that they promoted a lot of processed foods, whereas this book encourages preparing your own meals and snacks and gives many alternatives for things to make when a chemo patient doesn't really have an appetite. I am now through my chemotherapy treatment, having just had surgery and will be on to radiation therapy, but I intend to continue to make use of the recipes in this book. I really like the almond muffin recipe and the variations of it that she suggests (especially the chocolate variation)!
If you are looking for a personal resource for getting through cancer or to support a friend or family member going through cancer, I highly recommend this book!

To the author (and I mean this in the kindest way)....please upgrade this book, the format is not usable for someone who's exhausted, trying to survive:
* publish a spiral version that is lighter, easier to hold, can be read while reclining, stays open while cooking. This books is a whopping 2 pounds 6 oz
* Tool kit (chapter 1) I love your side effects list. Much appreciated. Would be more helpful as a chart.
**Missing Radiation recommendations...what do I do when?
**Tools? cooking utensils work best? P 50 says cast-iron...that's pretty heavy.
** How about some shopping/cooking/eating/clean up suggestions from cancer survivors.
** How to use some sort of timer the remember when to eat. Also, I suggest paper bowls, cups, paper napkins.
** Missing a chart by cancer type...for this sort of cancer, you need xxx gram/protein, how much fluid do I need etc.Gives the caregiver/self a clue for nutrition goals.
*Chapter 2 and beyond.
** P55 Chicken magic. I don't know what half this stuff is.
** Is it canned? Fresh, Frozen? What? What does a Japanese sweet potato look like? Kumbu? garnet yam???
**How about a tear out shopping list, a photo of what this stuff looks like,link on a web site, phone app. Again. I mean this in the kindest way...I need your help...not another recovery challenge.
**Could something be made in a slow cooker? Blender?
*Chapter 3 How is this chapter any different than an ordinary cookbook?
**How about some tips...make the left overs from one dish go into another dish, like you did with the soups
** p 87 Shopping for organics looks good but why does the chart live with the squash recipe? Maybe it move it to the toolbox?
**Whats a edamame? What's a peruvian potato? If my store doesn't carry it, what is the substitute?
** What's a cup? e.g., how much do I need to buy? Give more pictures of the veggies
** Not many cancer tips in this chapter. e.g. p98 Carrot/Beet salad. It's nice that the recipe was inspired, but I suspect that this chapter was just repurposed from another cookbook.
